She still slept when he woke up. Her lean body wound around him like she’d not been able to hold him tight enough. He enjoyed that feeling. And it was only with Xin. Their previous night together, he’d woken the same way, her wrapped around him like a spider monkey, and he hadn’t minded.

They’d both been insatiable, but while he wanted her again, he carefully untangled himself and padded to the bathroom. After taking care of his needs, he washed up and went back to grab a pair of sweats from the box that had some of his clothes in there. Adjusting the drawstring as he made his way to the kitchen, he slowed and backed up to the living room.

“How the fuck did you get in here?”

He watched Xahara push away from the couch she’d been seated on the arm of and move toward him.

“How long have you been here?”

“Long enough to know you’re a fucking stud in bed.” Her expression didn’t soften as she looked him over while she approached. “Now, I know she’s sleeping, but I think it’s time for us to have a little chat. Just you and me. Baby Daddy to Overprotective Sister and Aunt, who just happens to be on a SWAT team. Same as my husband, who looks at her like a little sister.”

He crossed his arms and waited. “Shouldn’t I be worried about her father showing up to threaten my dick?”

Her smile chilled him. “You’d have better luck with him. He’s trying to get into her life. Me, I’m there. I just got her in my life and I’m not losing her. I’m not going to get between you both because I think you’d be good for her and the baby to have around. So don’t get all defensive thinking I’m here to tell you to stay away.”

He had been. “Then what are you doing here?”

“She’s had a fucking hard life. You just took her for a spin. No, I’m not talking about the baby. But the job bit. She’s not a woman who grew up in a loving household.”

“She’s talked to you about it?”

“No.”

He furrowed his brow. “Then how…? SWAT.”

Xahara nodded. “Just keep that in mind. She will fight you, and she’s good at going ghost.”

“Understood.”

“You’re smart, I thought you would get my point.” She moved closer to him and touched her short, unpolished nail against his chest. He glanced down and stared at the rock on her hand. “You hurt her and you’ll never be found.”

A sound behind him had him looking over his shoulder. When he faced forward again, Xahara was gone.

Cody no longer had a need to get a drink. He had a desperate one to see Xin and took long strides back to the room, part of him—okay, most—expecting her to have vanished.

Xin lay where he’d left her, her naked body partially covered by the sheets. His cock stirred and he lowered his sweats, fisting himself and stroking as he walked to the foot of the bed.
